Donald Miller Words, LLC and its related companies (“DMW,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) operate numerous websites, including without limitation, storybrand.com, admin.storybrandguide.com, businessmadesimple.com, marketingmadesimple.com, heroonamission.com, onlinesalesscript.com, and thecustomeristhehero.com (collectively, the “Site”) and all related services (collectively, our “Services”). This Website Cookie Policy (“Cookie Policy”) outlines how DMW uses cookies and other tracking technologies and is incorporated into our Privacy Policy and Terms of Use by reference.
Cookies, Anonymous Identifiers, Web Beacons, and Other Internet Tracking Technology
As part of our overall operations, we store tracking technology on your browser to collect information. The information collected might relate to you, your preferences, your uses and actions, or your device, and is mostly used to make the Site perform and to provide a more personalized web experience and, sometimes, to provide targeted information to you. However, you can choose not to allow certain types of cookies. Choosing to opt out of certain cookies may impact your experience of the Site and the Services we are able to offer. You can update your cookie preferences at any time here.
1. We utilize Cookies, Anonymous Identifiers, Web Beacons, and other Internet tracking technology to collect information from a user’s computer, mobile, or other device.
Cookies, Web Beacons, Anonymous Identifiers, and Tracking Technology. We receive and store certain types of information whenever you interact with the Site or Services. For example, like many websites, we use “cookies” and “web beacons” (also called “clear gifs” or “pixel tags”) and embedded scripts to obtain certain types of information when you use or access our Services.
A “cookie” is a data file that is created and stored on your computer’s hard drive, memory, or web browser to enable our systems to recognize your browser or equipment and to provide convenience and other features to you when you visit our Services. Some cookies collect/contain Personal Information, some do not.
A “web beacon” is an object embedded into a web page or an e-mail that collects various data. A web beacon is known by several common terms, such as a web bug, tag, page tag, tracking bug, tracking pixel, pixel tag, web pixel, targeting pixel, re-targeting pixel, and clear gif. Web beacons are tiny graphics with a unique identifier that may be included on our Services for several purposes, including to deliver or communicate with cookies, to track and measure the performance of our Services, and to monitor how many visitors view our Services. Unlike cookies, which are stored on the device, web beacons are typically embedded invisibly on web pages or in e-mails. When used within e-mail, for example, a web beacon can track whether a user opens a message, clicks on a link within the e-mail, and similar actions.
We also use other, similar Internet tracking technologies to monitor a user’s actions coming to our Services, moving through our Services, and after leaving our Services. An “anonymous identifier” is a random string of characters that is used for similar reasons as cookies. Examples of the information we collect and analyze in this manner include the Internet Protocol (IP) address used to connect your equipment to the Internet; computer and connection information such as browser type and version, operating system, and platform; your browsing activities on our Services, as well as the URL you come from and go to next (whether this URL is on our site or not); and cookie number.
If you are concerned about the storage and use of cookies, you may block or limit the storage of cookies via browser controls or other software. We do not make any promise that our Services will recognize or be able to work with any such browser controls/software – e.g., see below for Do Not Track options. You may also be able to delete cookies manually from your computer through your internet browser, operating system, or other programs. Please note, however, that some portions of our Services will not function properly or be available if you are able to and do block and/or delete cookies.
2. How We Use Tracking Technology
We use cookies and other tracking technologies as follows:
For more information on how we use the information we gather from our users’ activity on the Services, please see our Privacy Policy.
3. Types of Cookies
Strictly Necessary. These cookies are necessary for the Site to function and cannot be switched off in our systems. They are usually set in response to actions made by you which amount to a request for services, such as setting your privacy preferences, logging in or filling in forms. You can set your browser to block or alert you about these cookies, but doing so will cause some parts of our Site not to function properly. These cookies do not store any personally identifiable information.
Marketing. These cookies allow us to deliver ads we believe are more relevant to you and your interests. They may be set by us or third-party providers whose services we have added to our Site. Marketing cookies may involve targeted advertising or the sharing of personal information for the purposes of cross-context behavioral advertising under certain state laws.
Preferences. These cookies enable the Site to provide enhanced functionality and personalization, including settings and customizations that change the way the Site looks and/or functions. They may be set by us or by third-party providers whose services we have added to our Site. If you do not allow these cookies, then some or all of these services may not function properly.
Analytics. These cookies allow us to count Site visits and traffic sources. They help us to know which pages are the most and least popular and see how visitors move around the Site. All information these cookies collect is anonymized and aggregated. If you do not allow these cookies, then we will not know when you have visited our Site, and we will not be able to monitor its performance.
Please be advised that this Cookie Policy does not govern the use of third-party websites or services or providers of third-party services.
4. Change Settings from Within Your Browser
When you visit our Site for the first time, our cookie acceptance form makes it easy for you to enable or disable all non-essential cookies; however, it may not prevent all cookies from other websites being sent to your computer, mobile, or other device. To do this, you may want to change your settings from within your browser by going to the “help” function on most browsers. If you choose to have your browser refuse cookies, then it is likely that some areas of the Services will not function properly when you access or use them.
The instructions for these vary from browser to browser and they may change from time to time as new versions are released.
5. Opting Out.
We may disclose personal information to digital analytics and advertising services providers, and to other third parties. Under certain state’s law(s), these disclosures may be considered sales of personal information or the sharing of personal information for targeted advertising.
If you do not wish to participate in preference-based advertising via third-party advertising networks, go to https://optout.aboutads.info and follow the simple opt-out process. A couple of important notes about this opt-out tool: (1) it includes all the advertising networks that we may work with, but also many that we do not work with; and (2) it may rely on cookies to ensure that a given advertising network does not collect information about you (“Opt-out Cookies”), meaning that if you use different computers, change web browser, or delete these Opt-out Cookies, you will need to perform the opt-out task again.
You may also opt out by broadcasting an Opt-Out Preference Signal, such as Global Privacy Control (“GPC”), through a browser or browser extension that supports such a signal. We recognize and process supported Opt-Out Preference Signals as required by applicable law. When we detect such a signal, we will treat it as a request to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information and its use for targeted advertising with respect to the browser or device from which the signal is sent. Because an Opt-Out Preference Signal generally does not identify you personally, we may not be able to associate the signal with your account or apply the request to other browsers or devices. To submit an account-level request or extend your request to other browsers or devices, please use the webform linked here. You may need to enable the signal separately on each browser and device you use. (For clarity, DMW is not affiliated with, does not control, and is not responsible for, any third-party tools referenced in this section.)
6. Do Not Track Features.
Certain browsers may offer you the option of providing notice to websites that you do not wish for your online activities to be tracked for preference-based advertising purposes (“DNT Notice”). Some browsers are, by default, set to provide a DNT Notice, whether or not that reflects your preference.
Unfortunately, given how preference-based advertising works, DNT Notices may not be effective in communicating your preferences. For this and a variety of other reasons, with respect to our Site and Services, we do not take any action based on browser-based DNT Notices. Rather, if you do not wish to participate in preference-based advertising activities, you may follow the simple opt-out process identified above.
